HMS MAORI
Description
Resting close to the shore with maximum depth of 16 m, HMS Maori is one of the most accessible wrecks of Maltese islands. It is probably the best known World War II wreck in Malta.
HMS Maori was a tribal-class destroyer with overall length of 115 m. The ship was hit by a bomb and sank when harbored in Grand Harbor. In July 1945 the wreck was raised, and the forepart was scuttled to its current position in St. Elmo Bay at the other side of Valletta.
Due to the shallow water in which the wreck lies, Maori is quite broken down by storms, and much of her has also been salvaged.
