CATHEDRAL CAVE & WIED IL-GHASRI

Description

Wied il-Ghasri is an amazing deep and narrow valley cut in the north coast of Gozo, 3.5 km west of a village of Marsalforn. The max depth at the estuary is 15 m and it's perfect for fun dive, brimming with a wide variety of marine life. The cherry on the cake at this spot is for sure the Cathedral Cave - The name is not for nothing. It's simply a huge cave located on the right outside of the valley. We can surface inside and we have the plenty of fresh air there thanks to the big crack in the rock, which lets a lot of natural light get inside. We dive to the darkness but when we are in, we can see the surface glittering. Once we're in, we realize that it's very bright place unlike other caves. The dive in is approx 5-6 m deep (bottom is at 15 m) and 15 m long. Outside of the cave we have training depths to 20-25 m, 100-200 m out we can dive to 50+. The acces to the cave is either through the valley, which means 99 steps down and back up, or from Ras il-Kanun, where we have 20 m straight by the shore. From this entry point we swim towards Wied il-Ghasri and the cave is on the left.
